NICOLE O'BARTO TRAINER, PH.D, MS, LPC
Nicole received her doctorate in counseling psychology from West Virginia University. She was trained in the Department of Psychiatry at Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, PA. Dr. Trainer has been studying integrative mental health since 2009. She founded Natural Resilience with the intention to shift the conversation in mental health care away from deficits and subjective lists of symptoms treated largely with pharmaceuticals to one focused on innate health and the integration of evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies. Further, Dr. Trainer believes that a more dynamic and holistic approach to mental health treatment would better prepare an individual for the lifelong process of understanding their emotional self and taking care of their mental health.
Nicole’s initial research and practice focused on the integration of evidence-based complementary and alternative therapies like mindfulness meditation, biofeedback, and nutritional awareness into the treatment of mild to moderate depression and anxiety. Nicole later began integrating mindfulness-based relapse prevention into her work with clients struggling to heal from disruptions in mental health caused by addictions to alcohol and other drugs. Nicole routinely teaches her clients about the roles that nutrition and physical activity play in one's emotional well-being and has specialized training from Allegheny General Hospital in mind-body therapies.
